Job Summary

As a Test Engineer for this position, you will be responsible for managing the manufacturing testing of NetApp products throughout their lifecycle—from new product introduction (NPI) through to ongoing manufacturing support. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective design, development, and implementation of test processes that achieve optimal product quality and test coverage. Engaging with OEM and EMS partner engineers, you will be expected to address issues efficiently and uphold timely delivery standards for high-quality products. Responsibilities include developing, modifying, and executing comprehensive software test plans and cases, both manually and through automation. 

Success in this position demands strong technical expertise and project leadership skills, particularly in process analysis and understanding business impacts. The role offers opportunities for continued technical growth and meaningful input into both technical and business decisions that drive departmental objectives. Core responsibilities include defining and executing manufacturing test strategies, working with engineering teams, validating requirements for test automation, selecting appropriate equipment, conducting manufacturing verification tests, documenting procedures, spearheading continuous improvement initiatives, analyzing yields, maximizing test coverage, delivering actionable feedback, managing product transfers and setups, overseeing test equipment utilization, and supporting the maintenance of the test network and related infrastructure.

Job Requirements

Technical Expertise:

  • System-level expertise in data storage technologies and operating systems such as NetApp ONTAP is highly preferred. Strong understanding of NetApp ONTAP software and hardware architecture, including WAFL file system to HA cluster, virtualization layers, and system administration tools.
  • Proficiency in NAS/SAN, and block-level and file-level protocols such as NFS, CIFS/SMB, and Fibre Channel (FC), including their operational characteristics and performance implications.
  • Experience with storage hardware components such as drives, disk shelves, IOM modules, cables, and controller configurations, including installation and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Experience with drive types including SATA, SAS, NVMe, and SSD, and understanding of their performance profiles and use cases.
  • Exposure to storage networking topologies, including iSCSI, NFS over TCP/IP, and multipathing configurations. NetApp Deployment and Operations Guide.
  • Thorough understanding of Linux or other Unix-like Operating Systems is added advantage. Basic TCP/IP switching and routing understanding and configuration.
  • Understanding of Container based technologies preferably Kubernetes & Dockers.

Testing & Validation:

  • Proven experience in executing test strategies and developing test scripts for storage and networking hardware.
  • Expert in analyzing and troubleshooting NetApp hardware, firmware, and ONTAP systems.
  • Ability to validate requirements for test automation, select appropriate equipment, and conduct manufacturing verification tests.
  • Experience in analyzing yields, maximizing test coverage, and delivering actionable feedback to engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with test environments involving ONTAP and firmware upgrades, controller swaps, and disk/shelf /IOM replacements.
  • Prior manufacturing or factory experience in system test would be desirable

Software & Scripting:

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or compiled languages like Java or C#.
  • Ability to develop and modify automated test plans and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Experience working under tight deadlines and adapting to shifting priorities
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
  • Availability for after-hours and weekend support may be required.

Education

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in storage systems testing and test development.

Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is 159,800 - 237,600 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies. Benefits may vary by country and region, and further details will be provided as part of the recruitment process.
